Sorry for not posting this weeks Free Embroidery Design, will post a cracker for you tommorow. In the meantime here are some tips for uploading the designs to your machines, appologies to experienced embroiders, we were all newbies once and had to learn the basics.
Janome Designs
To upload designs to your machine you will need a blank compact flash card you can get these for a couple of pounds 32mb, 64mb 128mb any is fine. You will also need a compact flash card adapter again only arround 4 pounds and not forgetting some Embroidery Designs in Jef format. You can buy these on cds which you load on your pc and transfer to the flash card or grab freebies here
Brother Designs
Uploading Brother Designs is tad more expensive, you need a blank origional brother card, unlike janome brother only excepts origional which are arround 80 pounds, you also need a card reader which is arround 100 pounds so a big price difference.
You have been using your Embroidery Machine for sometime now, exausted all the built in free designs and played arround with a few design cards you purchased what now? Have you got your own design you would love to embroider? Why not get it digitized. Digitizing is a long process and if you have never digitized dont expect to pick it up in days try more like months, its not easy and the programs can be expensive. Its a wonderfull new skill to teach yourself and i will discuss the software you can use in a later post.
Now back to getting your design digitized, have a look arround, most will charge you per stitch and will not negotiate, if your getting a silly price then leave me your email address in the comment box and i will email you the details of where you can get any embroidery design digitized for a set fee of 18 pounds regardless of stitch count.
Embroidery machine choice is vital, if it is domestic embrodiery machine you are looking to buy then brother and janome are the two main choices. Both are an excellent choice and update thier machine regularly however the cost of maintanance and accessories are very diiferent. Janome is a much better choice for design value, with domestic brother embroidery machines you can only upload using brothers origional blank cards which cost in the region of 80 pounds however janome designs can be uploaded using standard flash cards for arround 2 pounds and then you use a flash card adapter, the whole process for janome costs no more than 8 pounds however to do the simple process of uploading custom designs to a brother machine costs way over 100

Embroidery thread is an important factor to consider when stocking your embroidery consumables. It is vital you purchase strong durable thread, embroidery machines are high speed and needle breakages will make your work hard and not to mention your product shoddy. You can purchase high quality embroidery threads on ebay for a fraction of the cost, ackermann range is one of the best on the market it will make your products look adorable, they will withstand the life of the product and fullt machine washable. I have known people to use standard sewing thread is janome machines but freying occurs. For brother sewing machines you must buy only high quality embroidery threads they are very tempremental.
Q: Needle wont take under bobbin thread
A: Check upper and lower bobbin is threaded properly, rethread and try again. If problem persists clean under bobbin casing, if no joy possible sensor fault, it can be disabled but will void warranty.
Q: The needle keeps breaking
A: The needle maight be bent or blunt, The needle clamp may be loose, The needle is incorrectly installed but i think this is very unlikly but it is always best to check. The upper thread tension is to tight try reajusting the tension,The spool is incorrectly installed, The area around the hole on the plate itself is scratched or as a burr on it, The bobbin case is damaged or as a burr on itor using the wrong bobbin for the maching.
Q: The upper thread keeps breaking
A: There are knots or tangles in the thread, The upper thread tension is to tight, The needle is bent or blunt in somecases these are bought not relising that they are bent
Q: The lower thread is tangled or may even break
A: The bobbin thread is incorrectly installed, The bobbin is scratched or wont rotate properly, The thread is tangled.
Q: An high pitch noise is made while embroidering
A: Dust or dirt as over time as accumulated in the bobbin case, You could even be using the wrong bobbin.
Q: Stitches keep skipping
A: The upper thread proberly is not threaded properly rethread and try again, The needle is blunt, Dust or dirt has accumulated in the bobbin case just taske out a nd give a general clean.
Q: The stitch is not sewing correctly
A: The thread tension is proberly set to high reset thread tension and try again, The thread is tangled in the bobbin,
Q: Embroidery is not neatly done
A: The fabric you are using is not stretched in the embroidery frame and the fabric may be to loose, Not using the right or even enough backing paper or none at all, The thread tension may be set wrong for the fabric you are useing, The fabric is catching, The fabric is an heavy material and is hanging down over the bench.

When starting an embroidery business it's always a bonus to find a regular supplier of those essentials. Wether it is backing paper, embroidery threads or other consumables like quality t-shirts or polo shirts. This is not easy especialy if your embroidery business consists of providing a personalised service. How many times have you found a really good supplier, listed the various colours you can offer only to re-order from your supplier and find they do not have the regular supply of colours they they first said they did.
